FREE Spiritual Directors International Event Open to the Public

Spiritual Directors International is a global learning community committed to advancing spiritual direction around the world. Our membership consists of people from many nations and many faiths. SDI provides educational programs, publications, and contemplative practices to support spiritual direction.

Through open and respectful exchange of perspectives, contemplative practices, and patterns of expansive thinking, we seek to enhance competence and connections. The purpose of the learning community is to foster the transformation of individuals, organizations, and societies in light of the holy to promote peace, justice, and the integrity of creation.

7:00 p.m. Welcome to Spiritual Directors International Cultivating Compassion

7:15 p.m. Howard Thurman: Cultivator of Compassion
Dr. Howard Thurman (1900-1981), was an influential American author, philosopher, theologian, educator and civil rights leader. He was Dean of Theology and the chapels at Howard University and Boston University for more than two decades and wrote 20 books. In 1944, he left his tenured position at Howard University to help the Fellowship of Reconciliation establish The Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco, California, USA, the first racially integrated, intercultural church in the United States.

Together we will learn what it means to flesh out the practical dynamics of compassion within the context of community. Presenter: Kirk Byron Jones.
